Cycling in Holland - Planning your routes wisely

Holland is the cycling country par excellence. It is therefore not surprising that you can cycle from your holiday home along 100 km of cycle paths, winding through protected dune landscapes, vast fields, through picturesque villages and over dikes with magnificent views. You can take a rest on the many benches and picnic tables or enjoy a refreshment in the bicycle-friendly cafés. The flat natural landscape and the kilometres of well-paved cycle paths are just as suitable for safe inline skating.

The cycling network for cyclists in Zuid-Holland

The cycle paths in Goeree Overflakkee are well signposted. There is a network of cycling junctions consisting of various starting points indicated by numbers. At each of these points, there are signs with the following junction numbers, so you can put together your own individual cycle route and determine the length. Cycle maps with signposted cycle routes and with recommended routes are available at the VVV office in Ouddorp.

If you do not bring your own bikes, you can easily rent them at the bike rental in Ouddorp. We work together with the local bike rental company RentTourBuy. If you reserve your bikes in advance, they will be delivered directly to your cottage and they are at your disposal at the beginning of your holiday.

Is it compulsory to wear a helmet when cycling in the Netherlands?

Cycling in the Netherlands is very safe. In many places, cyclists have the right of way and accidents are rare. You can choose whether you want to wear a helmet while cycling, but it is not compulsory.

Walking in Holland by the sea

Of course, you can also explore everything on foot. A large number of walking routes, which start right in front of the door, lead you through the surrounding nature reserves and past bird-watching stations. From a short walk to a long walk, everything is possible. Choose the route according to length and your personal interests.

Take a break in one of the quiet villages and regain your strength in one of the cosy pubs. Maps with populair walking routes are available at the VVV office in Ouddorp.

Sporty walking and cycling

Whether you have booked your holiday inZuid-Holland for walking or cycling, be sure to pack your camera! The 2 km long dike "Het Flaauwe Werk" near the Noordzeepark is a beautiful path in itself. A walk along the 25 km long beach will certainly also provide you with many photo opportunities. Several beach entrances allow you to stretch your legs during low tide and high tide. On your bicycle tours, you will discover the most beautiful sights in the area, which are always worth taking pictures of.

If you don't bring your own bikes, you can easily rent them at the bike rental in Ouddorp. You can also rent a cool e-chopper, suitable for up to 2 people and equipped with a USB port and a phone holder.

Hiking in the Netherlands by the Sea

Of course, you can also explore everything on foot. Numerous hiking trails starting right at your doorstep lead you through the surrounding nature reserves and past bird observation points. From a short walk to a long hike, everything is possible. Choose the route based on length and your personal interests.
